Born to Tell Stories

my story

My name is Jordan Patrick Barnes. I'm 22 and originally from Novi, Mich. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University in May 2009 with a long list of extra-curricular activities, fluency in a second language and several great internships.

Story-telling is one of the world's greatest traditions, and one in which I particularly enjoy partaking. Music, film, fashion, literature, comedy and art are all forms of story-telling that influence me and permeate throughout culture. While I'm a writer, I very much enjoy the oral tradition, taking photos, creating videos and using my creativity to tell stories in a number of different ways.

I am pursuing a career in digital communications, media relations or copy writing at a large to mid-size public relations firm. I'm a social media expert who has trained over 50 MSU Extension educators in social media and videography and how they can help promote their programs throughout the southeastern region of Michigan. While I've lived my whole life in Michigan, I've spent time in Europe and interned for a travel book called V!va Travel Guides in South America. I feel most comfotable in an urban environment -- being most familiar with those cities on the east coast, but have found a deep love for Chicago, San Francisco and most of all, New York City.

While PR is my chosen career path, I will always continue to write: articles, non-fiction and fiction, in my free time as writing is my greatest passion. I am currently a publicity intern for the Lakeshore Theater in Chicago, IL, where I currently reside, and I freelance for TechCoquette, a blog about the art of online flirting. I'm currently also expressing myself through my personal blog and a blog I created to discuss gender and sexuality in modern culture, aptly sporting the controversial name, GenderF-ck.
